Great show!!! Shows the average street person what is involved with racing and let's them know there is a place to learn. I liked the comment about snowboarding, how people will get a snowboard lesson but jump on a 400lb machine with 160hp without any training.
I would like to see more information about how suspension works and how they tune it.
Man, they need to push this to other discovery channels too, so that all others who aren't subscribed to Dicsovery Science can see this awesome show. And it would be great if this became a regular series.
i've watched it four times now and I still can't wait to see it again, the show was very well made and extremely accurate as well as exciting, the Hayden brothers(inlcuding Nicky, who wasn't mentioned) are awesome people and extremely competitive, as most brothers are. It would be cool to see an episode focusing on their new challenge, taking on Mladin in Superbike. I'd also like to see Josh Hayes but I'm a little biased being from Mississippi, lol.
Great show and well documented too! Although the Lakers were playing last night, I autotunned it to the Science Channel at 7:00 p.m. instead of the FSN West so I was just glued to it and didn't bother to watch the game not until the show was over (and I call myself a Laker fan) .
I just wish they could show more of this sportbike content shows. I love it and can't wait for it to come out on dvd soon and add it to my collection!
Great show. It's great to see things in action than from reading in a book. Been riding for 5 years and I picked up on a few new things that can help make me a better rider on the street. I hope there's more.
Fantastic show guys, as a club racer with Willow Springs Motorcycle Club I found "Speed on Two Wheels" to be a very welcome change from the run of the mill hollywood b.s. like "Biker Boys" and "Torque". It gave a great insight into the true world of motorcycle racing, and sport bikes as a whole. Thanks, and hopefully more will follow.
Thank you for Speed on 2 Wheels. It put sportbikes and racing in an informative and positive light. And it was a welcome departure from the countless chopper shows which for many of us motorcycle enthusiasts and riders are not much more than 2 wheel art not really made to ride.
Just wanted to commend Discovery Channel on putting together a real show about motorcycles. With all these other shows out there it's good to see you all get to the "roots" of motorcycles, sportbikes to be exact.
I think you will get overwhelmed with the positive feedback from this. I look forward to seeing more great programing from Discovery channel.
The response to this show on all the moto-boards I frequent is a big thumbs up! Finally, a show for the sport riders! Hey you decision makers upstairs. Get a clue, the sport-rider market is huge. We want more shows like this one!
Fantastic job with the 'speed on 2 wheels' show. I'm a long time motorcyclist & motorcycle race fan. Any chance you can visit a MotoGP team & see what the differences are between them & a national team? It'd be an interesting show for sure - as would learning about the science of other forms of mc racing - speedway, dirt track, motocross, supercross, ice racing, the list is endless!! Thanks again for giving me another reason to leave my clicker pointed to your channel.
This show was great, I couldn't believe how informative it was. It really showed the good aspects of Sport Bikes and motorcycle roadracing. If they could get in with a Moto GP team, they could really show some technology. This was an excellent show.
Loved the show, I learned a lot about how race bikes are set-up by a factory team and got insights into the amount of prep the racers go through for a single race. I am really looking forward to similar future shows! Probably one of the best produced shows I've seen in a while, and I watch Discovery/DTimes/Science fairly often.
My whole Family thought this is the most excellent show I have seen on MC. Nick Ientesch was an stellar choice for a Host. Matt Mlladin & Tommy & Roger Hayden interesting insights. Having Nick demonstrate braking was done superbly. One note on braking, what was left out was braking should be done in a strait line before the corner, & down to safe corner entry speed. The reason is grabing the front brake of a MC in a corner will tuck the front end resulting in a crash. I have known about the test bikes set up with sensors. I was amazed with the amount of axis the CAD could measure a built bike. Please make some kind of announcement if this show was a 'one off' or (PLEASE)if there is interest that it could become a series. It was a much better show than the chopper build up 'reality shows'. Thank you!
throttlejockey: I heard they pay a lot of attention to these forums. I do not think another one has started yet because as you can understand a project like this wasn't guaranteed to be a success, based on past shows, but this show managed to blow all others out of the water in all aspects and I hope that Discovery channel will take our suggestions and continue with programs like this in the near future, because as has been said it is one of the few shows on TV today that shows sportbikes and riders alike for what we really are and not just the squids that most non-riders assume we are.
Anyway keep the feedback coming so they know we loved the show, make sure your friends watch the future airings of the show, here is an apprx list:
April 23rd at 3pm May 27th at 8 and 11pm May 28th at 3 and 10am http://science.discovery.com/tvlistings/episode.jsp?episode=0&cpi=117000&gid=0&channel=SCI

ZX10miami: I heard the original plan for the show was slightly different, but the idea evolved over time to focus on the haydens and Mladin, etc but comcast didn't get it changed so their description was the one that talked about pridmore and Jordan.

Wonderful show, very informative and well made. It would be nice to see a series of shows that went into more detail on each aspect of the sport or maybe focussing on different teams/people and the different approaches to going fast on a sportbike.
Great job everyone - let's see some more!
throttlejockey - don't forget about trail braking! Not all braking is done straight up and down or while traveling in a straight line!

I greatly appreciated the accuracy, depth and coverage Speed On Two Wheels provided for us viewers. In the media, superbikes are often portrayed in a tasteless exaggeration of public stigma that is more rooted in sensationalism, rather than a presentation of interesting facts we can all learn from.
Actually, this show far exceeds the mere presentation of interesting information. Rather, it presents facts that are downright fascinating to a wide range of audiences, from the experienced all the way down to the lay person. All these were delivered with excellent visual modeling, footage and arrangement in combination with well-chosen feedback from career professionals who say it exactly "like it is."
These types of presentations are bound to generate a higher level and longer lasting interest on the part of the audience. This is especially true on the topic of Super Bikes and the media, which has now reached a point of repetitive, tiring and ultimately tasteless aggrandizement of negative public stigma.
All I can say is, "It's about time! Thank you so much for a great show... More please!"
I loved this show. They've got to give us more than just one episode. I'm glad I Tivoed it so I can watch it again. There hasn't been anything out there on the subject that is as comprehensive or well done.
Yes trail braking is a viable way, and actually showed a Hadyen brother performing it(?) 'backing it in' to a corner. I use the techinque, but no where near the level of the racing demos. The show covered how powerful the front brake is, but didn't give the caution about when not to use it. Trail braking is a technique that should be covered if they make more episodes. How some ever more bikes are crashed with a newbie (panic) grab of the front brakes while leaned over, except maybe entering a corner over skill level speed. You think your going as fast as possible and Matt mlladin will pass you on the inside like your stopping at a signal. Another thought for future episodes is being smooth on a MC translates to speed. How not to upset the weight balance ie. traction patch. Mlladin is a demonstration model.
you know it's weird, i don't even own a motorcycle and i always end up getting sucked into these shows. was this just a special or is it a series? i love stumbling upon random stuff on discovery that i know nothing about.
Wow!! this was a great show. Very informative great choice on the host. One of the best produced shows that i have seen. Does anyone know if it's going to turn into a series? I hope so. Luckily, i have it on TiVo and will be able to watch it over and over. Great Job and keep them coming!
How refreshing to see motorcycling from a different perspective!!!
With the flood of "chopper shows" on TV with no end in sight, it's great to see the pinnacle of actually technology and innovation in motorcycling.
Many of us motorcyclists can only take so much of "chopper builders" weld on fancy decorations on antique frame designs and calling it "innovative."
I sincerely hope there is interest in building on this theme or this angle of motorcycling in television. Perhaps a show detailing the AMA racing season for several teams? Comparing and contrasting the privateer efforts versus the factory teams and the experience of working through the racing season?
I look forward to any other similar productions. Thanks for a great show!
The show was freakin awesome. It's nice to see programming that's actually ABOUT motorcycles and not just watching them be raced.
Or against motorcycles, or promoting stereotypes, etc.
More programming like this would be appreciated.
Oh and I enjoyed how ya'll actually went into detail about specific parts of the physics of the motorcycle. I think I might actually understand how counter-steering works now lol.
Truely an awesome show for any motorcycle fan. I thought of it as Motorcycle Encyclopedia made for TV. Very informative! Any chance of an extended version? I want more!!!
I'm really excited to see a program on sportbikes and the racing lifestyle. I'm happy to see a channel has taken the inititive to make a program about a bike that doesn't involve chopping one up in some way, shape or form. I'm looking forward to more informative programs involving sportbikes as well. Thank you for keeping in mind that not everyone that rides, rides a cruiser or races cars.
After YEARS of failed attempts at a comprehensive sportbike program (not to mention Hollywood's attrocities), we have a winner! This was an informative overview of sportbikes for those who ride AND those who would never think of getting on two wheels.
Thank you from the entire sportbike community for showing the aspects of these bikes which we love. Speed, technology, and competition are what we thrive on, wether it be actual racing or "discussing" with our friends why our bike is better.
I would love to see this program in a prime time spot on the standard Discover Channel and would love to see it become a series!
Thank you Discovery, for showing a quality hour on sport motorcycles in racing. Very informative for every level of bike involved person watching the show. Hope that you are able to do more of them, with emphasis on the viewpoints of the different participants involved in the sport; racer, mechanic, team owner, aftermarket suppliers, etc.
I was given the opportunity to see this doco tru a mailing list, Really enjoyed it, and looking forward to it being shown in Australia, if there a few more shows of this calibre, I wouldnt feel so ripped every time I pay my cable subs!
Can I just say WOW! That has to be the single best show I have ever watched. I liked how it was technical and explained a lot, without being a boring documentary. I really apreciate that it wasnt made into an "american chopper" or any of the other current motorycle shows offered on other channels - it was all about the bikes, setting em up, racing, what goes into it and how its done - especially what goes into it and how its done - and not about the crap drama and bs and flash and glamour and stuff that american chopper is about. I like american chopper, but thats cause I like to build bikes and fabricate stuff (same reason I like monster garage - which should be on more) but I liked this for different reasons, and I liked it a LOT better. If you made a series about this - you know, like one show setting up suspension, one about the engines, one about aerodynamics, etc, etc, that explained all that stuff the same with this explained racing, then I would gauranteed watch it every time!
Anyways, thanks for the great show, and keeps em coming!
This was an excellent show. Really top notch. I watched it, Tivo'ed the next showing of it and want my wife and daughter (who are both learning to ride) to watch it.
That show was awesome! I would be stoke if they made it into a series. Nick Ientasch was great on there - I'd also recommend his book for anyone who hasn't read it.
The wife and I really enjoyed the show. It really gave our kids a much better idea of what is involved when riding. I found it informative and fun to watch. I would love to see more shows along this line on you channels.
That show was the best ever. The presentation from the best current racers and track schools viewpoint in a real talk way (vs the canned for the camera stuff from the before and after the races stuff). I would at least hope that this is re-run on science and discovery, mega times (like Yellowstone erupting), it would also be a huge benefit to society (both bikers and non bikers) if this theme is expanded, to emphasize the safety on the street, of having and advanced skill learning with the most capable bikes. A tremendously more effective tool rests in the hands of the producers of this show, than what is available in the motorcycle media, or anywhere else. No matter what, this biker thanks you.
